Hey, can I work for you How to approach your favourite companies
Hello, would i be able to work for you How to move toward your preferred organizations Regardless of whether it's Warner Bros, Tesla or L'Oréal, we as a whole have our preferred organizations â" the ones we've followed for a considerable length of time and consistently trusted we'd some time or another be a piece of. However, shouldn't something be said about when you need to quit dreaming about them and really begin working for them? From LinkedIn searches to manually written letters, University of Warwick Human Resources Communications Officer and visitor blogger, Sophie Hannah, shares a few hints to help you on your way. Quest for the ideal individuals on LinkedIn Suppose you need to get some work involvement with Netflix. It's a since quite a while ago shot, correct? Perhaps Netflix doesn't accomplish work positions. Possibly they just do week-long spaces and you have an entire month free. However, in any case, Netflix is your fantasy. So jump on LinkedIn â" most importantly look for the organization, at that point click on 'See all workers on LinkedIn' and filter through the rundown. Discover their HR director or whoever else you think would be open to your email, at that point compose it. Clarify your circumstance and why you think you'd be so extraordinary to have around. Be explicit You definitely realize that messaging help@disney.com or info@apple.com with an amicable Howdy, I'd love to work for you! message won't work. It'll get lost, or sent on to an inappropriate individual, or overlooked. So have a think and get explicit: who would you like to address? The advertising administrator? A HR worker? The substance composing group? Settle on the choice and afterward tailor your email to that individual â" you're substantially more liable to get a reaction. Ensure your work is noticeable I know, I know â" everybody hits into about this. Be that as it may, it's insane what number of individuals state I need to be a picture taker! or I'd prefer to be an essayist! yet don't put any proof of this on the web. It very well may be alarming to begin offering your work to the world, but at the same time it's an extraordinary method to get criticism on the stuff you're making and warm up to others who are in a similar pontoon as you. What's more, in particular, it implies you have an arrangement of work prepared to show or send to expected bosses. Keep things casual Assembling an email? Compose how you'd talk. Howdy, Lisa. Expectation you're truly well and that you had an exquisite new year⦠is an a lot more amiable opening line than Dear sir or madam. I trust this correspondence discovers you well⦠It can be enticing to slip into an increasingly formal tone, yet this can regularly appear to be unoriginal. Try not to confound 'proficient' with 'automated'. Become an investigator (kind of) Assuming you discover somebody on LinkedIn, yet their email address isn't recorded on their profile. Impasse, isn't that so? WRONG. This is the point at which everything gets fun since you can imagine you are somewhat investigator with a crucial complete. (*puts on earthy colored coat and sunglasses*) Discover them on Twitter. Many individuals who use Twitter for fill in just as play have their email address in their profile â" scan for them and see what you can discover. Perhaps tail them on Twitter while you're busy. Associate with them on LinkedIn, at that point send them a message by means of LinkedIn DMs. Call them. Marginally startling? Indeed. Be that as it may, possibly productive? Additionally yes! You have their name and where they work, and that is a beginning â" so work up your determination, call the primary switchboard and check whether somebody can connect you with their office. Tip: Write a smaller than expected content in advance in case you're apprehensive. Utilize your inventiveness This is the place I am going to instruct you to compose a letter to your preferred organization, and I am mindful that it sounds prosaic and exceptionally gooey yet, guess what? I couldn't care less, in light of the fact that it WORKS. Keep in touch with them a letter. In the event that you have perfect composition, do it by hand. Enlighten them concerning you. Disclose for what reason you'd prefer to work for them one day. Inquire as to whether they extravagant gathering for espresso. Send a rundown of inquiries you'd prefer to pose to them about their profession. Reveal to them why you appreciate their work or their organization. Scribble down your email address/site/Twitter handle. Brighten the envelope (no, truly). Incorporate a portion of your work, if that is conceivable (for example in case you're an author, craftsman or comparative). Long story short: ensure that what you're sending to any organization sticks out. An email may not, yet a letter will. Try not to surrender You probably won't hear back straight away, yet don't think about it literally. Whoever you've reached will undoubtedly be occupied, so reacting to you probably won't be head of their daily agenda, regardless of whether they're keen on what you need to state. There's nothing amiss with sending a subsequent email â" hold up a week or somewhere in the vicinity, at that point drop them a speedy message or call them. Except if you hear an unmistakable pass from somebody, there's nothing preventing you from checking in each couple of months to knock your recommendation back up in their inbox. Keep in mind: you don't need to live in London The best part about being alive in 2018 (as I would like to think, at any rate) is that we can utilize the web to make the most of chances that didn't exist a couple of years back. Need to be an independent author at Cosmopolitan? Give online life presents on an organization you like? Get promoting experience? You don't really need to be in the workplace to do that. Have a consider what you can do from home low maintenance, and prepare to pitch it to somebody. You got this!

#1 Mistake 99% Of Employees Are Making In Their Careers - Work It Daily
#1 Mistake 99% Of Employees Are Making In Their Careers - Work It Daily There's a serious mix-up that 99% of representatives are making and they don't have any acquaintance with it. RELATED: Need some profession guidance? Watch these instructional exercises! This mix-up is being made basically by individuals who are new in their profession, but at the same time it's being made by veterans who recognize what would be inevitable yet are disregarding the signs and indications. The serious mix-up is the misguided feeling that all is well and good workers are building up in their professions. It's not their shortcoming, however. As children we're asked in Kindergarten, What would you like to be the point at which you grow up? This inquiry is not, at this point pertinent nor should it be permitted to be solicited, particularly with regards to cubicle occupations. As we experience life, move on from secondary school, and head off to school, this out of date and incorrect conviction that all is well with the world is pushed significantly further, as universities and colleges attempt to limit the path understudies fit in. In reality, things don't work that way. In reality in 2014 and past, you can no longer set up a lifelong dependent on a solitary field. Your manager needn't bother with 100 individuals who are specialists in a single specific field. They need 100 individuals who are Jacks-Of-All-Trades. They need individuals who comprehend and can talk the dialect across groups and across divisions. It's significant that this issue be focused on the grounds that a huge number of 18 and multi year olds are moving on from secondary school and school hoping to bounce into the quick paced universe of business, believing they're going to construct long haul vocations in fields like showcasing, advertising, promoting, web based life, etc, and what they don't understand is that those fields are continually disturbed. They continually advance and change. The issue with this change is that it leaves the representative powerless against losing their employment as their picked field may inevitably get outdated. In this way, here's the equation for progress: Set up skill in whatever number associated fields as would be prudent. Rather than simply having some expertise in online life, differentiate your abilities in customary advertising, SEO, PPC, PR, business advancement, etc. Addition however much experience as could be expected in completely related fields. Proceed with your training for a mind-blowing remainder. This shouldn't be mistaken for school, as school doesn't characterize instruction, it's only a part and a choice. Your training is the accomplishment of new information and abilities. Nonetheless, you approach catching this data, ensure you keep doing it for an amazing remainder. Ascend the stepping stool. As you proceed through your profession, never permit yourself to get careless. Whenever you see opportunity, get it and assume responsibility. On the off chance that open door doesn't present itself, escape and set sail for a new position. Show esteem. Worth is the only thing that is important. This is the reason being a Jack-Of-All-Trades is so basic in the present continually advancing and serious occupation showcase. Businesses care about worth. Your professional education is fine, yet don't over-file on its significance. You'll set yourself up for an extremely enormous let down. Worth tells a business that they're getting their cash's worth, so the more worth you can give a business by ideals of your range of abilities, the almost certain you are to fabricate genuine professional stability. Up Your Personal Brand Game - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career
Up Your Personal Brand Game - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career I was perusing an article today about the two tech monsters Google and Microsoft. The article concentrated on how Microsoft might be situating itself to make a play in the profoundly serious pursuit commercial center. Strength and determination Google was alluded to as having market strength. Microsoft was alluded to as having determination. Unmistakably, the article was alluding to piece of the pie and market position. I began pondering how these words could be applied to individual marking: Brand Dominance Market predominance is a proportion of the quality of a brand comparative with serious contributions. Market pioneers are brands with plainly characterized character. The brand character is the picked character that best imparts the brand suggestion to the intended interest group. It isn't the character of the intended interest group, the character is well on the way to draw their consideration, intrigue them, and urge them to make a move and purchase the brand. The powerless brands in any market segment are those with ambiguously characterized brand attributes. Brand Perseverance Brands that are supported prevalent entertainers are those that keep up a higher than normal piece of the pie over an all-encompassing time span. These brands are supposed to be unrivaled steady entertainers on the grounds that their exhibition perseveres. Some way or another they remain over the crowd. Such brand constancy, notwithstanding hindrances, can give consolation to mark followers. Applying this to individual marking I like what Gill Corkindale offers in her Harvard Business School blog 11 Tips for Creating Your Personal Brand. Here are four focuses I think fit in with the idea of predominance and persistence as they would help you up your own marking game : Gain from the enormous brands. Recognize what makes you particular from the opposition. What have you done as of late to make yourself stick out? What might your partners or your clients state is your most noteworthy quality? Manufacture and deal with your advertising system. Your companions, associates, customers, and clients are a significant advertising vehicle for your image. What is said about you will decide the estimation of your image. Figure out how to impact. Utilize your own capacity, your job and your system. In any case, use them delicately and wisely, or, in all likelihood you won't be viewed as a believable or dependable pioneer. Make yourself noticeable. Manufacture your profile inside and remotely. Approaches to do this incorporate systems administration, pursuing prominent ventures, exhibiting your abilities in introductions or workshops, composing for inside or outer distributions, chipping in for boards of trustees or board conversations at a meeting. By the day's end, a brand is a guarantee. Ensure your own image guarantee can convey by considering the stuff to rule and continue on. 3 Common Habits That Are Destroying Your Credibility At Work
3 Common Habits That Are Destroying Your Credibility At Work An effective vocation in advertising is needy after shaping solid working connections (go figure, given the name of the business). What's more, the absolute most significant connections PR experts need to develop are with individuals ofthe media, the watchmen of the ever-significant outsider approval that such huge numbers of advertisers are looking for. The PR/writer relationship is advantageous we need one another, yet additionally perceive that the parity can be delicate. What's more, in all honesty, a portion of your apparently minor regular correspondence propensities could be pulverizing your polished skill and subverting your believability, regardless of what industry you're in, when attempting to hold that balance within proper limits. Here are three of those basic propensities and how to end them. 1. Not fulfilling time constraints. Probably the most ideal approaches to turn into an imperative asset to columnists is to convey when you state you will the prior, the better. Scholars are on cutoff time as a general rule, so getting them the customer quote, infographic, actuality check affirmation or other snippet of data theyve mentioned when theyve mentioned it is critical to prevailing in PR. All things considered, PR is about relationship building, so one of the surefire approaches to wreck your believability and guarantee that columnists will stay away when you connect with them later on is to pass up their cutoff times. In the event that theres a burglary that is frustrating your capacity to convey on schedule, let the correspondent know now and again they have a little squirm room. At any rate, giving a heads up will imply that you comprehend the significance of fulfilling their time constraint, and will improve the probability that theyll work with you once more. This applies to your associates, as well. Being deferential of cutoff times, even those set inside, is a urgent to keeping up your polished methodology. Recall bunch extends in school where there was consistently one good-for-nothing you dont need to be that individual at your particular employment, isn't that right? On the off chance that youre experiencing difficulty organizing your tasks or have various corresponding cutoff times, approach your supervisor for help. Odds are the person will have the option to assist you with moving things around so youre not hauling your hair out in dissatisfaction - thus that you wont need to compose messages that start with Sorry for the deferral on this. Nobody likes being the beneficiary of that email. 2. Being excessively easygoing in messages. While advertising and promoting offices are known for being laidback work environments, theres such an incredible concept as being too easygoing with regards to speaking with the media, especially those youre pitching just because. Doing some examination on who youre focusing to guarantee your story is a solid match for their beat is consistently a smart thought, however how you utilize that data can represent the deciding moment your odds of accomplishment. Referencing how a piece they as of late composed impacted you for a particular explanation? Put it all on the line, however keep it brief. Remarking on their end of the week exercises that you spotted on Instagram? Not a smart thought. Crawling writers out by acting like theyre your BFF when youve never messaged, not to mention met, them is a decent method to guarantee your contribute winds up their rubbish organizer. Tone is significant, too. You dont need to seem like a robot when you convey through email, so implanting your character in your composing is An OK. Be that as it may, its most likely best to hold off on the utilization of web slang, GIFs, and so forth until youve built up a strong working relationship. If all else fails, decide in favor of being direct. Once more, paying attention to this guidance with your associates too is astute. While youre without a doubt on more amiable footing with those you work with all day every day, its best to spare the emoticons, shortened forms and other super-easygoing correspondence for those youre nearest with. 3. Not talking certainly. Open talking is a key part of a profession in PR, and not exactly with regards to customer introductions or new business pitches. Having the option to convey certainly and articulately applies to working with the media, as well. While most pitching happens through email nowadays, calls and in-person gatherings despite everything assume a job in the PR/columnist environment. Correspondents are lacking in time, so faltering over your words, utilizing fillers like um and you know, or freezing up totally will lessen your polished skill and will probably mean youll hear a dial tone before long. To maintain a strategic distance from this situation, regardless of whether youre in the previously mentioned customer introduction or youre at a media occasion, consider the three to four key focuses you need to make. Record them for reference in the event that you have to, however dont struggle with retaining the specific wording- - excessively scripting will just entangle you. Recollect that a couple of beats of quietness isnt the apocalypse, and actually, quiet is obviously better than filling the hole between ideas with a drawn-out ummmmm. While these propensities are apparently harmless, they can harm your demonstrable skill. Mindfulness is a large portion of the fight, so on the off chance that you can get yourself before you slip into your old ways, youll be en route to turning into a very much regarded, believable PR star in the blink of an eye. - Kaitlin Bitting is VP of advertising at Allen and an ensured wellbeing and health mentor.

Top 5 - Ways to keep fit at work
Top 5 - Ways to keep fit at work by Michael Cheary When you have a busy work (and social) schedule, keeping fit and staying in shape is often pushed down the priority list and seen to be too time consuming. While maintaining a good work-life balance can be difficult, unless you have a physically demanding job, most of us will spend several hours a day sitting and sedentary, something which can have serious consequences on our health and productivity.Looking for some fitness shortcuts? Well at reed.co.uk we dont think work and working out necessarily need to be mutually exclusive. To help you squeeze some exercise into your executive lifestyle, here are our top five ways to keep fit in the workplace5. Make the most of your journeyGetting into work every day can feel like a struggle, with some people travelling from farther afield than others. Even for the most optimistic amongst us, when you make the same journey day in and day out, it doesnt take long for the monotony to set in. To beat the boredom, why not m ake yours a more unconventional commute?Running and cycling are the obvious choices, but there are many other options to consider. Tai-Chi on the train, body combat on the bus or even some toning on the tube. The possibilities are endless, as long as you dont run out of alliterations. And you neednt miss out if you drive to work. Park in the furthest possible space, or better yet, the furthest possible car park, and watch the pounds fall off.But for the sake of your colleagues, make sure your office is equipped with showers first 4. Take the stairsIf youre interested in keeping fit whilst still keeping a close eye on your finances, then this could be the perfect option for you. Instead of spending your day attempting to make idle chit-chat with Tim from Accounts while desperately pressing the elevator call button, skip the lift and try hitting the stairs. Its especially effective if you work on the fifth floor or above. As the old saying goes There is no elevator to success. You have to take the stairs. (Warning: Not applicable if you work on the ground floor).3. Use your colleaguesSometimes all you need to keep you trim is a little motivation, and what better motivation is there than peer pressure? It could be a few laps of the pool at lunchtime, a friendly game of squash on a Thursday evening, or an office sports team. It could even be an interpretative dance troop, or a cheeky bit of chess boxing. It really doesnt matter how you do it. It only matters that you do (inspirational mug/matching t-shirt combo on standby).2. Equip yourselfTo get fit, sometimes all you need are the right tools. While not all of us can be lucky/unlucky enough to work at a gym (delete where applicable), why not cut out the middle-man, and bring the gym to you?Replace that dated desk chair with a trendy exercise ball, put a mini exercise bike under your workstation, or even add some handy free weights to your phone to really maximise your call time.If budget and/or embarrassment restric t you, find an empty meeting room and go for the gold. Just make sure you check the schedule before you start shadowboxing. You dont want to become another YouTube statistic.1. (Dis)IncentiviseIf your attempts to get your colleagues involved have been in vain, try challenging yourself instead. Punishments Incentives will vary from industry to industry, but the more creative you are, the better the results will be.For example, if you work in telesales, do five star jumps every time you dont make a sale, or stand up until you do. Going to make a cup of coffee? Thatll be 10 press-ups. On another cigarette break? Make it 100 (or better yet, quit smoking).Let the race beginHonourable mentions: Going to the gym before work, going to the gym during work, going to the gym after work, body popping during your PowerPoint presentations.Think theres any weve missed out? Perspective Special Days, Special People
Perspective Special Days, Special People I remember my life in my last job. I worked at least 60 hours a week (including the commute). I traveled a bit and generally wasnt around much. Since I lost my job Ive had the sweet chance to renew relationships with my wife and kids. Ive come to appreciate being there and not missing those moments that define a life, build character and create memories. Today is a special day for someone who is very special to me. And Im taking the entire day off (I think!). Its easy when you are in a desparate job search to forget about the special things that make our life what it is. I know why losing a job is like having oxygen cut off. You cant think of ANYTHING except getting that next breath. The world stops turning, your lungs burn, and nothing else matters. Ive been in that situation (diving in Puerto Rico as a young teenager), and its scary. The problem with these feelings in job search is that it is not relieved in just a few seconds, when you finally swim to the top of the water. The job search can go on (and you miss important events) and on (while you miss birthdays because you are there physically but not mentally) and on (while you miss opportunities to help your kid through a life-changing experience (because their issue seem trivial to you)) and on (while you miss pillow talk because your relationship has been crumbling) and on See where Im going with this? Pause. Take a breath. Regroup. And stop missing the important things with the important people. Jobs come and go, but work hard to keep those important people in your life, and a part of your life. To my special someone who is experiencing something big today: love you! Perspective Special Days, Special People I remember my life in my last job. Will a Technology Fast Make You More Productive - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career
Will a Technology Fast Make You More Productive - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Many of us eat, sleep, and breathe technology. Im no different, in fact, its my job to know the newest happenings in mobile and social media technology and then relate the practical applications to everyday busy professionals. However, while technology, used strategically, should make us more efficient, the overuse of technology makes us less effective. One of my favorite examples is when I ask attendees attending my workshops how they should connect with a desired LinkedIn contact when they know someone in common. The most common answer is to send a LinkedIn introduction request. It always amazes me that more people donât suggest simply picking up the phone and calling the mutual friend. This is what happens when we donât unplug from time to time to get centered. It just so happens that I recently went on a twenty-four hour technology fast, cutting out items including computers, phones, televisions and radios. I uploaded the following cover photo on Facebook the night before my fast. The purpose of a technology fast is to unplug long enough to have the opportunity to step back and assess what is and is not working for you, what amount of technology is necessary, and to even brainstorm new ideas. This will help you keep your online brand fresh and innovative. Wondering what do to during your fast? These were the items on my agenda: Meditate and the Chung Tai Zen Center Enjoy a Reiki appointment Get a full body massage Eat at a healthy restaurant Rent a hotel room by the sea Journal When I came back I was refreshed, renewed, and ready to reconnect with greater purpose. In just twenty four hours I was able to see where I was devoting too much time to specific online activities while not enough to other relationship building action items. Also, I find that nature is an amazing source of inspiration for business and even branding ideas. How often do you unplug? I suggest at least once a quarter. If that sounds too difficult to you start with once per year. For business purposes, I highly recommend you bring a journal. As you gain inspiration from nature and the people around you, you should record your thoughts on paper. No, that app wonât work, because youâre not supposed to have your phoneâ"remember? How to Get Hired Fill a Need
How to Get Hired Fill a Need Most entrepreneurs will tell you that the #1 rule for succeeding in business is, Find a need and fill it. But you dont have to be an entrepreneur to benefit from this advice. The Find a need and fill it approach will help you write better resumes and cover letters, and it will help you ace your next job interview, too. This method has two steps. Here they are Research and find employers needs: First, create a shortlist of companies you want to work for. This is where many job seekers blow it. On the first day of their unemployment, most people open the classified ads or visit their favorite employment Web site and start looking for jobs. Wrong. Its better to look for companies first, and jobs second. Think about it. If you catch on with the right employer, even if its in the wrong job, you can find room to move up or sideways into a position thats best for you. You and they will be motivated to find the right fit. By contrast, if you take what looks like a good job at a company with dysfunctional co-workers, customers or both, youll likely quit in short order. And youll be back where you started. So, start your search by making a list of 10-25 ideal employers and then look for positions within that relatively small universe. Once you have this list of target companies, research to uncover needs you can fill. What are their biggest problems? Opportunities? Dangers? Find this information by tapping your network of personal and professional contacts. A good tool for this is Zoominfo. Each of these websites is free. Google Alerts are good, too. Use this free service to be notified by email any time your target company is in the news (Google.com/alerts). Explain how you can deliver, based on skills and value: After you find what employers want, tell them how youll deliver. This requires you to know thyself. Specifically, what are your three most valuable skills? Example skills: marketing, customer service and writing. Then, quantify the value of your skills: How much money have you made or saved for employers? Think long and hard on this one. Lets say one of your skills is customer service. To quantify its value, think back on your work history until you find a success story. Example: You solved a problem and kept an irate customer from going to a competitor in 2006. That customer brought in $245,000 in annual revenue. By retaining that account, you saved $245,000 for your employer this is the value of your customer service skills. The total value of your skills may be higher or lower, but youll never know until you add up all the numbers. Think and ye shall find. OK. You know your skills and have found at least one success story with dollars attached. Now, you need to match your skills to employers needs. Example: Lets say your research shows that your target employer, Acme Widgets, wants to open new markets and increase revenue. How will you tell the folks at Acme how your skills match their needs? Usually, youll get two chances: in the cover letter and the job interview. Lets start with your cover letter. You will get an employers attention and more interviews when you prove that you know their needs and how to fill them. Example cover letter language: From what Ive read in Minnesota Business Monthly and the interviews Ive done with your employees, I understand that Acme Widgets is expanding to Italy. My knowledge of Italian, coupled with my five years of experience producing up to $710,250 in new revenue for widgets such as yours, can help me make an impact for you. In the interview, you should flat out ask, Why are you bringing on a new person? Whats the one thing you want this new employee to do more than anything else? If the hiring manager gives you an answer, reply with a match to your skills and value. Example: They want someone to retain key accounts. You reply that youve saved up to $245,000 by doing that very thing last year. If the hiring manager cant say exactly what they want the new employee to do most, great! Simply walk them through a series of questions to uncover their needs. Is it cost savings? Higher revenue? Fewer mistakes in filling orders? What exactly? When you agree on their main need, match it with one of your skills and success stories. At this point, you will be leading that hiring manager by the nose directly to a job offer. Now go and do your homework: You must uncover specific needs at your target employer. You must know your three most-valuable skills. You must assign a specific value to each skill, based on success stories. Finally, you must think on your feet so you can match your skills to employers needs in an interview. It boils down to this. You can either invest a few hours of work this week to discover the needs of employers and communicate how you can fill them, or you can face a frustrating, financially crippling job search that lasts for months. Which would you prefer?

Why Candidate Experience Matters and 7 Ways to Improve It CareerMetis.com
Why Candidate Experience Matters and 7 Ways to Improve It Every employee on your staff is in marketing.Let me repeat that because itâs critical. Marketing is the job of every single person at your company, especially when it comes to attracting, hiring, and retaining the talent youâll need to grow sustainably and meet your companyâs long-term objectives.Think about how candidates interact with you. Sure, youâve got all their data entered into your applicant tracking systemand youâve printed out every resume. Maybe youâve even called some references. Does that make you ready for the interview? Donât be too sure, especially if you expect to hire a Millennial.evalâItâs getting increasingly important for companies to be able to recruit and retain talented, dedicated employees. However, many companies are not yet fully attuned to the realities of what it takes to do that,â writes Peter Economy for Inc.Likely up until now, youâve always been focused on what the companyneeds in a new hire. But viewing the hiring process throu gh the eyes of your candidate is important if you want to attract the very best person for the job, especially as the job market heats up.First, a word on Millennial job candidatesThereâs a good chance that some of the candidates you consider for a role will be Millennials. Itâs important to understand their expectations since they differ from those of other generations.Already the largest segment of the U.S. labor force, Millennials arenât keen to be interviewed for a good job so much as theyâre determined to find the right fit for their skills, personality, lifestyle, and values. According to Inc. magazineâs recent roundup of hiring trends, with data provided by Glassdoor for Employers, Millennials are â¦More likely to accept a lower salary than a boring job.64 percent would rather make $40K a year doing work they love instead of $100K a year not being challenged.Searching for the right fit. Career potential matters to Millennials. People and culture matter more, though : nearly 80 percent ranked it as their top priority in looking for a new job.More skeptical than other candidates. 65 percent say theyâre less likely to believe company workplace claims than they were in 2011.The message? Treat your Millennial candidates liketheyâre ina sales pipeline;aim to learn everything you can about the best candidates beforeyou get into the room to talk about a possible partnershipâ¦just like you would if you were walking into a sales meeting with a potential customer. The power of positive impressions ⦠at every touchpointCandidates have only a handful of ways to interact with your business before making an offer. To win the war for the best candidates, youâll want to ensure a memorable experience at each of these seven âtouchpointsâ in the interview process. The good news? While you spruce up each of these touchpoints to be more attractive to potential new hires, you will also build a workplace that your current employees will be proud to work in and brag about to their future coworkers. Employees who want to stay with your company longer, which will reduce the number of times you have to hire for a role!)Every entry at every office. Your culture and values should be reflected in the design of your office. Nowhere is designed more important than at the entrance to your business. Have a quirky culture? Hang eclectic paintings in your entryway. Give candidates a clear view of who you are and what you stand for upfront, and youâll attract people who want to be a part of your company ethos.Eachemployee. Remember what I said at the start of this article? Your current employees are your best marketers, especially during the interview process. Take the time to make sure everyone has a say in and is clear on what your company is, does, and stands for. Invested employees can be a powerful magnet for talented job seekers, so put your brand cheerleaders in front of candidates you want to woo so they can tell them why itâs great to work for your brand.Every web page. More people will come across your company online than will ever visit your office or even meet one of your employees in person. And yet many companies over-invest in a design office and under-invest in their presence online. Donât make that mistake. Instead, create a consistent set of brand elements (i.e., font, color, packaging and design) that reflect your culture and values and use them everywhere. Canât afford a professional designer? Try using powerful alternatives like cloud-based web design platforms. They let you create a professional-looking websitefrom a wide palette of colors, designs, fonts, and templates, many of which are free to use. Each email you send. The vast majority of your business interactions with prospects, customers, and candidates will be over email. Make every one of them count. No, that doesnât mean everyone should have the same email signature. Rather, it means there should be no surprises; a âcustomer firstâ brand should be known for responding promptly to every email. Pro tip: use an email marketing tool to design your signature andkeep track of how quickly (and how often) candidates open your emails. A quick open with a later response could signal an enthusiastic but thoughtful candidate whoâs studying up to give an on-point response.Every social media account. Like your website, your social accounts will be a first or second stop for candidates researching whether your company is worth applying to. Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter give you the opportunity to tell (some) of the story of who your brand is. LinkedIn is especially important for connecting with job candidates; browse each oneâs profile to learn more about them, and make sure your company profile is filled out in case theyâre doing the same reconnaissance work on you. Each interview. The more authentic you can make the recruiting and interviewing process, the more likely it is youâll attract high-quality candidates seeking a long-term opportunity.Avoid those filler interview questions and focus on questionsthat really give you a sense of whether a candidate would be a good fit. Invite the candidate to ask you questions, as well.A personal touch. Top-notch candidates who value culture, fit, and a visible commitment to a purpose higher than just making money also want to know youâll invest in them. Youâll make them feel like you have taken an interest in them if you not only pay attention details theyâve shared but even remember them in subsequent interviews. How can you keep them all straight? Use your contact management toolto keep notes from each interview to refer back to. If one candidate mentions that sheâs got a show dog, make a note. That way, should you decide to hire her, you can casually ask how Biffy did in the last show. Sheâll be impressed that an employer actually cares!Donât bounce this reality checkAs you can see, recruiting the right talent for your open positions isnât as easy as it used to be. Good salary, benefits, and vacation arenât as big a draw anymore, especially for Millennials. At best, theyâre table stakes â" and maybe not even that.Forming a unique and recognizable culture thatâs attractive and appealing and that your current employees find easy to market can be key to finding the nextgreat group of employees and can give that sought-after job applicant much to consider when you offer her a position at your company.
